Valley Of Fire

The aptly named named "Valley of Fire" National Park, 50 miles north of Las Vegas, provides some interesting scenery that has nothing to do with glitter, neon, water shows, or strip bars.

It is a quick and easy day trip outside the city, providing glimpses of native stone carvings, interesting natural rock formations, and even the set of an old hollywood western.

El Yaque

Not usually known for it's beauty, El Yaque beach is always full of surprises.

This shot was taken early in the morning before any of the typical fare were present - at any other time of day this particular stretch of ocean would be populated by species of wind lovers more commonly referred to as kitesurfers, windsurfers, and occasionally even the brave swimmer.

A truly magical spot, El Yaque (el jack-ee) is a fabulous spot to let time slow down, practice some extreme sports, and get great seafood and a few beers on the cheap.

(Next post, I promise will not be of a sunset or sunrise, and maybe even outside of Venezuela! :)  )

Atardecer de Paraíso

This is only one of the many fantastic photos that I have taken of the Bahía de Juan Griego.  This photo has not been touched up in any way, this is exactly how it came out.

Juan Griego is famous for it's sunsets, and I think this picture here tells it all.  I have been blessed to see so many of the wonderful sites that Venezuela has to offer, I hope this small taste will serve to whet your appetite.

¡Buen Provecho!

Lost in the Clouds

Title: Lost In The Clouds
Location: Roraima, Venezuela
Date: 2002/12/25
Camera: Canon Powershot S200

This photo was taken during my 3 week trip in the Gran Sabana, Venezuela. The photo is taken from the top of Roraima, a Tepui located in the extreme south of Venezuela and contains the punto triple, or triple point, of the borders between Venezuela, Brasil, and Guyana.

Tepui is the name of the mountains found in this region. They are characterized by flat tops and steep sides. Towering at over 3,000 meters, Roraima is considered the king of them all. In addition to hosting a wide array of curious and exotic fauna, beds of crystals, and amazing vistas, Roraima is also (in)famously known for the fact that it provided the setting for Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novel "The Lost World."

Although I have many photographs of the trek, a grueling 3 day hike to the top, 2 days exploring the top, and 2 days to return, I feel that this one picture represents most vividly the feeling of finding oneself in the "Lost World."
